Building a 3-Step Skincare Product Line from Scratch
Launching a skincare line requires more than great formulas — it needs a cohesive ingredient strategy, consistent branding, and scalable sourcing. Here's how to start.
Step 1: Define Your Hero Actives
Choose 1–2 hero actives that define your brand. Hyaluronic Acid for hydration, Niacinamide for brightening, or Retinol for anti-aging. These should appear across all three products at varying concentrations.
Step 2: Build Around the Actives
Cleanser — gentle surfactant base (SLES + Cocamidopropyl Betaine), low active percentage (1%). Toner — aqueous base, highest active percentage (5–10%), low viscosity. Moisturizer — emulsion base, mid-range actives (3–5%), occlusives for barrier support.
Step 3: Order Minimums & Scaling
Start with 100g trial batches for stability testing. Most ingredient suppliers have 500g–1kg MOQs. Plan for 10% wastage in production.
